From University Carlos III Madrid –> To University of Essex
I am currently a CONEX-Marie Curie Research Fellow at the Private Law Department of University Carlos III de Madrid, but I am also very much involved with the Human Rights Institute “Bartolome de las Casas” of the same university, where I am also managing the academic unit “Human Rights, Diversity and Technology.” Thanks to this two-fold capacity my interest in “Human Rights, Big Data and Technology” project was two-fold as well.
First of all as individual researcher I was interested in the AI-related human rights issues that the “Human Rights, Big Data and Technology” project addressed: in particular I was interested to learn more about how human rights discourse embrace the threats and opportunities of AI. My individual research project at the University Carlos III of Madrid is related to the legal personhood of AI and I was curious to explore the side of legal personhood that is related to rights and the interplay between the human and nonhuman rights.
The outcome of my stay at the University of Essex is that I got the confirmation that my ideas about the links between human rights, corporate rights and AI are sound and coherent so that I will develop my current research with these confirmations in mind. I have also got a few new insights and ideas for the future research on these issues, which I hope to develop into academic publications.
From the professional perspective I hope that I managed to enlarge and strengthen my personal academic network and that I will be able to develop the link between UC3M and University of Essex.
