Brunel University of London – which recently joined the University of London federation, hence the name change – launched the Open Research Champion scheme in July.
These are academic staff who promote and advocate for Open Research practice within their Department. They provide ad-hoc support and tailored training at Department level, aiming to increase the visibility and engagement of Open Research practices across Brunel as a whole. The Brunel Open Research Champion scheme has been developed and informed by the UK Reproducibility Network’s Primer on Open Research Champions.
Earlier in the year, during the Brunel Research Festival in May, the university announced the ten winners of the 2024 Open Research Awards. From embedding Open Research practices in psychology teaching and research, to developing a publicly available and reusable database of abnormalities in cancer, the winners demonstrated significant steps towards research that uses practices such as preregistration, open data and open access publication.
Slides from the awards session are available from the OSF website, with summaries of the work of our winners starting on slide 11.
