New policy to empower Essex authors to control dissemination of their research

The University of Essex now has an institutional Author Rights Retention Policy that will ensure the accessibility and openness of research produced at Essex. By aligning with the University’s commitment to an open research culture, the policy aims to maximise research impact through increased visibility. As a result of this policy, a version of all newly published Essex authored articles will be accessible to anyone to read and reuse.

Since the University of Essex launched a new Open Access Fund just over a year ago, enabling more Essex research to be openly published, 50 journal articles, 6 monographs, and 5 chapters have been published open access as a result of the fund. To find out more, hear from some of the published authors in a blog post written by Essex’s Open Access Fund Coordinator.

Earlier this year the University of Essex helped deliver Open Research Week 2024. The week celebrates and promotes open research for researchers and colleagues who support open research and covered topics such as citizen science, open research culture and open research in Europe. You can catch up with Open Research Week 2024 through this blog post, and via recordings of each session.
