From June 2024, the Centre for Peace Research and Peace Education at the University of Klagenfurt is an associated partner of EUPEACE. This network comprising seven European universities is centred around the themes of peace, justice and inclusion.
The Centre for Peace Research and Peace Education based in Klagenfurt will contribute its transdisciplinary peace studies approach to the network. “Working on the epistemic and social foundations of violent conflicts is central to our work. Our understanding of politics and violence is very broad. This allows us to regard peace and justice as concrete challenges and action-guiding utopias leading to the active shaping of social participation, dignity and justice,” explains Claudia Brunner, professor at and speaker of the centre. Researchers are currently addressing topics such as diversity-affirming education, peace education and transformative pedagogies, knowledge (science) and (freedom from) violence as well as coexistence in a post-migrant society.
The Centre for Peace Research and Peace Education now has the opportunity to share this expertise with EUPEACE, the European University for Peace, Justice, and Inclusive Societies. Their mission is to provide tomorrow’s citizens with the skills, knowledge, and experience to cultivate Peace, Justice, and Inclusive Societies. The network explicitly addresses all sciences and fields, from the humanities and social sciences to the natural and life sciences as well as engineering, and is inspired by the rebuilt bridge of Mostar – the symbol in their logo – as a testament to how dialogue can overcome conflict. Partners are Marburg University (Germany), Justus Liebig University Giessen (Germany), University of Limoges (France), University of Calabria (Italy), Comillas Pontifical University (Spain), University of West Bohemia (Czechia), University of Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Çukurova University (Türkiye) and University of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) as well as associated partners in Europe and beyond like University of Klagenfurt (Austria).
