Time for new understanding and solutions

‘Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.’

For me, this quote by arguably the most famous scientist ever, Albert Einstein, underlines the great tasks and the crucial role that we, as young European universities, play in these troubled times.

Perhaps more than ever, there is a need for new understandings and innovative solutions to the world’s great challenges, from war to climate crisis – and everything in between.

At SDU, we are driven by an ambition to promote research results that advance societal development. We are regionally anchored and internationally oriented. Because we know that only together – in committed partnerships with our network of European research universities and with the society around us – can we contribute to solving the challenges of the future.

2022 has been a successful year at SDU.

In close collaboration with the business sector, we are now building on our international strength in robotics research with a new high-profile effort on large-scale robots. Soon, we will open the doors to an ambitious new humanities centre that will contribute nuance and new solutions to large and complex global societal challenges.

Finally, we look forward to a major milestone in the ground-breaking New Faculty of Health Sciences/New Odense University Hospital project.

At the beginning of the new year, the New Faculty of Health Sciences will open, bringing together the university and the university hospital – a unique constellation in Denmark.

It will create an extraordinary framework for research, education and innovation, particularly in the field of health.

In other words, we look forward to an exciting new year full of opportunities and great collaborations with all our European partners.

The University of Southern Denmark wishes all Yerun partners a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous 2023.
