YERUN Paper: Education for a more sustainable world

YERUN is proud to launch its paperEducation for a more sustainable world: what can we learn from young European research universities?”

This paper is the result of a thorough work that the YERUN ad hoc group on SDGs has carried out over the past year. We are immensely grateful to the group’s members for their support in identifying the practices included in the paper and the accompanying recommendations, as well as to all YERUN Rectors, Presidents and official representatives for their commitment in taking forward our network’s and members’ advancement in the engagement with the SDGs.

Following the recent adoption of the Council recommendation on ‘Learning for the Green Transition and Sustainable Development”, this paper provides some concrete examples of how the recommendations are translated in reality. The examples presented in the paper on how to integrate sustainable development in both, the academic curriculum and in extra-curricular activities, can serve as a motivation for Member States and higher education institutions to remind ourselves that turning the recommendation into reality does not have to start from scratch. We can build further on the many experiences already in place to foster a generation of learners with the mindset, the attitude and the skills needed to face and embrace the challenges and the opportunities coming from the green transition and the Sustainable Development Goals.

YERUN will remain highly engaged and will continue as an active contributor to the ongoing and future discussions on the topic of Education for Sustainable Development.
