NOVA University Lisbon joined EUTOPIA European University in September 2021. EUTOPIA European University is a connected and inclusive community of like-minded universities. Through collaborative research, challenge-based learning foregrounding pedagogical excellence, greater student and teacher mobility, and shared innovation, EUTOPIA seeks to address local and global challenges, ultimately contributing to creating a new model for higher education in Europe.
EUTOPIA is present in ten countries and unites ten universities and their cities – Barcelona, Lisbon, Paris, Brussels, Gothenburg, Venice, Dresden, Ljubljana, Coventry and Cluj-Napoca. Overall, it includes more than 300,000 students, 45,000 professors, 1,000 research groups and tens of thousands of alumni, as well as hundreds of collaborating institutions and companies. The alliance thus incorporates a huge potential for exchanges, collaborations, mobility and shared projects.
The mission of EUTOPIA is to shape a unique and daring alliance of transformative institutions that are committed in the long term. Students, researchers and administrative staff are working together to build a new academic model, reflecting an open and united Europe that respects its citizens and the environment. An example of this commitment is the semestrial event – the EUTOPIA week – that had its latest edition from 22 to 26 November. Hosted by Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and themed Planetary Wellbeing, the event harvested the alliances and synergies already created throughout the network, and welcomed EUTOPIA’s new member universities.
NOVA was present for the first time in this event with a delegation led by the Rector, Professor João Sàágua, and also attended by the Vice-Rector for Education and International Development, Professor João Amaro de Matos, as well as members of the university staff.
