CoARA survey on Reforming Academic Career Assessment – deadline extension

The CoARA Working Group on Reforming Academic Career Assessment aims to broaden the reflection on academic career assessment, taking into account the full range of work conducted by academics in research, teaching and learning, innovation, management/leadership and service to society.

More knowledge on challenges, enablers and change processes can greatly help higher education institutions and research organisations across the globe as they navigate their own reform initiatives. Therefore, the Working Group is conducting a survey to map existing initiatives of academic career assessment at higher education institutions and research organisations. This may include initiatives which aim to broaden the criteria and methods for evaluating the outputs and impacts of academic activities for the purposes of recruitment, performance evaluation and career progression of academic staff.

The collected information will inform the development of an online repository of case studies on academic career assessment and a collection of lessons learned. It will also be used to inform the development of an adaptable toolbox for academic career assessment that will cater for different institutional profiles and national contexts.

This survey is open to all higher education institutions and research organisations worldwide. Please feel free to disseminate this call within your extended network.

The survey is open until 5 April 2024. Achieving a robust response rate is crucial to create a comprehensive overview of reforms in academic career assessment. Contribute insights from your institution to share lessons learned!

For any queries regarding the survey, please contact coara.wg.aca@gmail.com  Read the PDF version of the survey.

About YERUN’s involvement in CoARA:

The involvement of YERUN in CoARA is a natural continuation of our network’s commitment towards advancing academic careers, in line with our strategy “Enabling Talent to Grow” and the specific strategic priority area on Talent Development.

YERUN has been strongly involved in the process leading to the reform of Research Assessment since the very beginning of the initiative. It has been part of the Core Group supporting the development of the Agreement, and since September, it is member of the Implementation Group that has advised the development of the CoARA initiative. Furthermore, in November 2023, YERUN, together with 9 more partners, joined the CoARA Boost project. Since then, the network is collaborating closely in advancing the coalition’s objectives and accomplishing the project. In light of its strong commitment, YERUN values its future involvement in CoARA and will contribute at the best of its possibilities for the initiative to be useful, relevant and a real enabler of change.
