We are slowly but surely exiting from the COVID-19 pandemic, in which we largely relied on technology for our education, daily work and contacts. We have returned to a new ‘normal’, but we will certainly retain the positive developments from the past period, especially in the field of technologically enhanced education, and continue to apply them where they add value.
Maastricht University, as the European university of the Netherlands, will continue its unabated commitment to internationalisation, also as a driving force for the region. In doing so, it is important to listen to what the academic community needs – a one-size fits all approach often does not lead to the desired results. At UM, we work on internationalisation with and for the community. In the coming year, we will therefore focus on a number of priorities: actively supporting the European rollout of the national Recognition and Rewards initiative, which was also the focus of the YERUN General Assembly in Maastricht. We will continue to expand our Brightlands quadruple helix campuses and deepen European cooperation in the field of education and research, also in the framework of European funding programmes such as Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe. And from our European perspective, we will support global engagement. For these objectives, the exchanges within the YERUN network and YERUN’s role as the voice of young universities in Europe are of great benefit.
Maastricht University looks forward to further cooperation within YERUN and wishes all YERUN colleagues and their families happy holidays and a good start in 2023.
