By Professor Michael Weber, President of Ulm University
At Ulm University, we consider ourselves excellent – whether it be in research, teaching, or our everyday work. This characteristic has been found out when we wrapped up the process of uncovering our brand core at the beginning of the year. Thanks to our specialised subjects and the familiar atmosphere on campus, we are also focused and connected. With these three characteristics – excellent, focused, connected – at our centre, we set off on our journey to becoming an official University of Excellence within the German Excellence Strategy, which would mean additional lasting funding from the federal government and the German states. Currently, we have two full applications for Clusters of Excellence underway. We are excited to find out the results in May next year!
Another highlight for me was our very first university wide Graduation Ceremony. Set against the backdrop of Ulm Minster, more than one thousand Ulm University graduates celebrated their degrees, with their families, many professors and university staff also in attendance. It was incredible moving right into the heart of the city, not only connecting one more time with our new alumni, but also with the citizens, who were invited to join the big after party. I’m very much looking forward to continuing this tradition next year!
I gratefully thank everyone for the continued cooperation within the YERUN network this year – it is very much appreciated. May you and your families enjoy a peaceful holiday season, and a happy new year 2025!
