EUTOPIA

NOVA University Lisbon is a proud member of EUTOPIA, a European Alliance of ten like-minded universities dedicated to creating a connected and inclusive community that addresses both global and local challenges. All member institutions uphold the values of democracy, academic freedom, inclusiveness, connectivity, and planetary well-being. EUTOPIA aims to ensure that students, academic communities, and professional staff feel at home at any university within the alliance.

EUTOPIA’s long-term vision is to make a global impact on real-world challenges by empowering new generations with academic knowledge. While fundamentally a European alliance, EUTOPIA’s reach, and ambition extend beyond Europe.

EUTOPIA has established Global Partnerships with selected institutions in Asia, Africa, North America, South America, and Australia, considering geographical balance, disciplinary complementarity, and shared values and visions. EUTOPIA acts as an international gateway for the exchange of knowledge and culture and is associated with six universities beyond Europe: Universidad de los Andes (Colombia), Arizona State University (USA), Kyungpook National University (South Korea), Monash University (Australia), Université Internationale de Rabat (Morocco), and Stellenbosch University (South Africa). This broader and more diverse network of partnerships enhances our ability to address global challenges effectively. Through these global partnerships, EUTOPIA becomes a stronger alliance with a greater societal impact, opening the prospect of a more diverse and attractive inter-university campus.

The first EUTOPIA Week of 2024, hosted by Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) from June 17-20, was particularly significant from the Global Partnerships perspective. It brought together not only the ten European universities of the EUTOPIA alliance but also five of the six global partners. Under the theme Pathways to Cohesion, this event featured intense sessions addressing challenges and opportunities in global higher education, breaking down barriers, promoting inclusive education, and ensuring that students and faculty from diverse backgrounds can benefit from shared knowledge and opportunities.
