The University of Konstanz offers a variety of flexible continuing education programmes – for the public and companies. The university’s Akademie für Wissenschaftliche Weiterbildung (Academy of Advanced Studies) unites these programmes under one roof.
Following a 2019 UNESCO recommendation, the Open Science Policy of the University of Konstanz encourages its members to use, create and publish free educational materials to promote equal opportunities and quality education for lifelong learning. An in-house institution of the University of Konstanz entirely dedicated to lifelong learning is the Akademie für Wissenschaftliche Weiterbildung (AWW). The AWW offers a variety of university-level continuing education programmes that are available for a wide range of learners.
The Bologna-compatible programmes of the AWW are designed as modules to allow maximum flexibility. The idea is to give as many people as possible access to high-quality education, regardless of their individual living and employment situations. A focus group is full-time employees looking for new challenges or content updates and long-time scientists wanting to keep up with the latest methods.
In terms of formats offered, the AWW’s programmes cover a broad spectrum of individual requirements. They range from advanced training courses without a final exam to adult education studies and complete bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes. Content-wise, the programmes originate directly from or are linked to research at the University of Konstanz and are also part of the university’s transfer activities for society as a whole. Thus, they include state-of-the-art methodologies and are academically cutting-edge. The programmes comprise, for example, therapeutic and medical-related topics, various offers for teachers or trainers, and socio-political issues for different target groups. The AWW offers both German- and English-language study programmes.
Apart from individualised education, the AWW develops customised scientific continuing education programmes for entire groups and institutions. For example, it offers tailored summer schools that can be booked by companies and public institutions.
