UEF Business School joins AACSB

The University of Eastern Finland Business School has joined AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the world’s leading network of business schools seeking to strengthen the quality of education and research in business studies.

“By 2030, our vision is to be an internationally attractive Business School known for creating path-breaking scientific knowledge, as well as the home of high-quality education for future business and society,” says Associate Professor Saara Julkunen, the Head of the UEF Business School.

AACSB offers an accreditation, which is a way to ensure and further develop the quality of education. The achievement of this accreditation constitutes a future goal for the UEF Business School, and participation in the AACSB accreditation requires that the Initial Self Evaluation Report (iSER) has been accepted by AACSB. The accreditation involves the objective of continuous development, the achievement of which is supported by domestic and international collaboration, novel innovations and education impact measurements. The accreditation process also comprises self-evaluation and external evaluation, which seek to ensure that the curriculum, content and implementation of education, learning outcomes, staff competence, research, and university-business cooperation are of an appropriate standard.

The UEF Business School’s development project relating to its membership in AACSB is built around systematic and long-term university-business cooperation, which seeks to increase the regional vitality of eastern Finland and make business studies increasingly relevant to working life.

“We are collaborating with companies and other industrial partners to create a model tailored to the needs of eastern Finland. There is great potential here, and we already have plenty of ideas on how to jointly increase our impact. This collaboration will involve company visits, active and systematic participation in our teaching, developing our education to better meet working life needs, internship projects, making use of our international students’ cultural competence, research collaboration, annual meetings with international business leaders, and alumni activities, among other things. It will be beneficial for our students’ career paths to interact with representatives of business and industry already during their studies.   In fact, we can also create new and permanent practices to accommodate the future needs of companies,” Professor Matti Turtiainen, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies, says.

The UEF Business School offers a diverse range of education in the field of business studies at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral levels, including three international Master’s degree programmes taught in English.
